Historiskt ursprung


Den portugisiska vattenhunden har under många hundra år varit en arbetande hund på fiskebåtar i Portugal och varit till stor hjälp för fiskebefolkningen.


Det ursprungliga användandet av hundar på och omkring fiskebåtar har minskat i takt med den tekniska utvecklingen.


Vattenprovet har som mål att anknyta till det arbete som denna ras har utfört.


Målet med vattenprov

 

  • Att ta fram och bedöma de karaktärsdrag som finns naturligt hos den portugisiska vattenhunden.

  • Att förbättra rasens egenskaper gällande vattenarbete.

  • Att väcka och utöka intresset för vattenprov hos hundägare inom rasen.



Att tänka på i de olika momenten vid ett vattenprov

 

  • Aldrig ha halsband eller koppel under utförande av prov i vatten. Det kan lätt trassla in hunden eller fastna i något och utgör därför en fara för hunden.

  • Aldrig ha flytväst på hunden då en del av vattenprovet utförs under vattenytan.

  • Sele kan användas i nivå III för att hjälpa hunden upp i båten.



Personer och utrustning som ska finnas på plats vid ett vattenprov

 

  • En domare, en sekreterare och i nivå III en figurant.

  • Flytande apportbock

  • Flytrep/nät, 2 m långt

  • Sjunkobjekt för apportering under ytan

  • Flytbojar minst 2 st med dragg för markering av banan i vattnet

  • Flagga för markering av startpunkt.

  • Båt

  • Plastband för markering av tävlingsområdet

  • Tidtagarur



Klassindelning, 3 nivåer


Nivå I: anlagstest
Nivå II: öppenklass 1
Nivå III: öppenklass 2
De olika nivåerna består i sig av 3 st delmoment indelat A-C
Åldersindelning: junior 6-12 månader, övriga 12 månader och uppåt


Poängutdelning


Excellent: 45 poäng eller mer
Very good: 35-44 poäng
Good: 25-34 poäng
Not qualified: 24-15 poäng eller mindre


För uppflytt till nästa nivå krävs minst tre excellentresultat på den lägre nivån samt att det gått minst ett år från datumet då det första excellentresultatet erövrades.


Exempel: Hund 1 tar sitt första Excellent 6/6 2015 i nivå I, sitt andra excellent 7/7 2015 och sitt tredje Excellent 8/8 2015. Hund 1 får då gå upp och börja tävla Nivå II tidigast 6/6 2016.
Det finns ingen gräns för hur många excellent en hund får erövra under ett och samma år.
Ettårsregeln beror på att hunden behöver tid att på sig att träna in momenten i den högre nivån, särskild vikt läggs här vid dykmomentet.


Nivå I


Moment A


Simning (hastighet)


Hunden sitter på förarens vänstra sida vid startpunkten.
På kommando av föraren simmar hund och förare ut runt triangelbanan dvs. minst 15 meter ut till boj nr 1, fortsätter sedan 15 meter till boj nr 2 och sedan in till målpukten. Hunden sätter sig först framför föraren, för att sedan gå runt förarens högra sida, bakom denne och avsluta sittande vid förarens vänstra sida.
Detta moment har som mål att återskapa vattenhundens funktion som kurir mellan båtar. Domaren utvärderar hundens temperament och karaktär inför vattnet och dess simteknik (hastighet och simsätt).
Tiden mellan bojarna mäts och jämförs med de hundar som deltar vid provtillfället.
Poäng 1-5 utdelas till de fem snabbaste ekipagen, 5 poäng till den snabbaste, därefter utdelas poäng i fallande ordning.
Hund som inte går i vattnet eller som inte kommer förbi första bojen blir diskvalificerad i momentet och blir placerad efter den sist placerade hunden.
Här bedöms:
Beteende inför vattnet: 0-5 poäng
Hastighet runt banan:0-5 poäng
Simstil och rytm: 0-5 poäng
Lydnad i vattnet och på land:0-5 poäng


Moment B


Apportering av flytapport


Hunden sitter på förarens vänstra sida vid startpunkten.
Föraren kastar ut apporten mitt emellan de båda bojarna.På kommando ska hunden apportera föremålet och sedan simma till stranden med apporten i munnen. Avlämnande av apporten gör hunden sittande framför föraren som står vid startpunkten, för att sedan gå runt förarens högra sida, bakom denne och avsluta sittande vid förarens vänstra sida.
Hund som släpper apporten i vattnet blir diskvalificerad i momentet och blir placerad efter den sist placerade hunden.
Hunden får släppa apporten en gång när den kommit upp ur vattnet för att skaka sig om hunden därefter direkt plockar upp apporten och fortsätter till föraren.
Detta moment syftar till att återskapa vattenhundens funktion på fiskebåten som innebar att hämta objekt som fallit överbord.
Domaren bedömer hur hunden hämtar objektet, simkunskaper med objektet i munnen och överlämnande av apporten till föraren.

Avlämnande av apporten:0-5 poäng
Lydnad i vatten och på land: 0-5 poäng


Moment C


Apportering av objekt under ytan


Hunden sitter på förarens vänstra sida vid startpunkten. På domares signal går ekipaget ut i vattnet till dess att hunden börjar simma.
Föraren släpper ner sjunkapporten framför hunden och flyttar sig sedan en bit från hunden utan att stå ivägen för domaren. Hunden ska nu under ytan med hela huvudet för att hämta apporten.
Apporten ska ligga mellan 0,3-0,5 meter under ytan och hunden ska inte nå botten med benen, den ska simma. Föraren återvänder skyndsamt till startpunkten. Hunden simmar till stranden med apporten i munnen.
Avlämnande av apporten gör hunden sittande framför föraren som står vid startpunkten, för att sedan gå runt förarens högra sida, bakom denne och avsluta sittande vid förarens vänstra sida.
Hund som släpper apporten i vattnet blir diskvalificerad i momentet och blir placerad efter den sist placerade hunden.
Detta moment syftar till att återskapa vattenhundens funktion på fiskebåten som innebar att hämta objekt som fallit överbord och hamnat under vattenytan.
Domaren bedömer hur hunden förbereder sig före dykningen.
Här bedöms:
Förberedelse, uppmärksamhet och sätt att dyka: 0-5 poäng
Apport resultat: 0-5 poäng
Leverering av apport: 0-5 poäng
Lydnad i vatten och på land: 0-5 poäng


Nivå II


Moment A


Simning under minst 2 minuter
Hunden sitter på förarens vänstra sida vid startpunkten. På kommando av föraren ska hunden gå i vattnet och simma med föraren under minst 2 minuter. Momentet genomförs längs med stranden och inom synhåll för domaren. På signal från funktionär återvänder ekipaget till startpunkten .
Hunden sätter sig först framför föraren, för att sedan gå runt förarens högra sida, bakom denne och avsluta sittande vid förarens vänstra sida.
Här bedöms:
Beteende inför vattnet: 0-5 poäng
Simstil, rytm och hastighet: 0-5 poäng
Momentets helhet: 0-5 poäng
Lydnad:0-5 poäng




Moment B


Apportering av båtlina med flöten på (simulering av fiskenät)
Hunden sitter på förarens vänstra sida vid startpunkten. Föraren kastar ut båtlinan med flöten mitt emellan bojarna. På kommando hämtar hunden båtlinan och simmar sedan till stranden med båtlinan i munnen. Avlämnande av båtlinan gör hunden sittande framför föraren som står vid startpunkten, för att sedan gå runt förarens högra sida, bakom denne och avsluta sittande vid förarens vänstra sida.
Hund som släpper båtlinan i vattnet blir diskvalificerad i momentet och blir placerad efter den sist placerade hunden.
Här bedöms:
Apportens landningspunkt:.0-5 poäng
Hur hunden greppar apporten:0-5 poäng
Avlämnande av apporten:0-5 poäng
Lydnad i vatten och på land: 0-5 poäng


Moment C


Djupdykning med sjunkande apport
Hunden sitter på förarens vänstra sida vid vid startpunkten. På domarens signal går ekipaget ner till vattenkanten. Föraren kastar ut apporten mitt emellan bojarna och på ett djup av minst en meter.
På förarens kommando hämtar hunden apporten genom att dyka ner under ytan med hela kroppen. Hunden simmar sedan till stranden med apporten i munnen.
Avlämnande av apporten gör hunden sittande framför föraren som står vid startpunkten, för att sedan gå runt förarens högra sida, bakom denne och avsluta sittande vid förarens vänstra sida.
Hund som släpper apporten i vattnet blir diskvalificerad i momentet och blir placerad efter den sist placerade hunden.
Här bedöms:
Förberedelse, uppmärksamhet och sätt att dyka: 0-5 poäng
Apportresultat: 0-5 poäng
Leverering av apport: 0-5 poäng
Lydnad: 0-5 poäng




Nivå III
Moment A
Simning på kommando mellan båt- land- båt
Det här momentet genomförs på en bana mellan land och en ankrad båt ca 20 meter ut i vattnet. Här krävs förutom föraren i båten även en figurant på land.
Hunden hoppar på förarens kommando ur båten och simmar in till figuranten på land.
Hunden sätter sig framför figuranten som ger hunden en apport i munnen, hunden simmar tillbaka till föraren på båten med apporten.
Avlämnandet av apporten kan ske ett på två sätt.
Alternativ 1: Hunden avlämnar apporten i förarens hand simmande bredvid båten, föraren lyfter sedan upp hunden i båten.
Alternativ 2: Hunden går upp på båten via en ramp och avlämnar apporten i handen på föraren.
Hund som släpper apporten i vattnet blir diskvalificerad i momentet


Här bedöms:
Hur hunden hoppar av båten och ner i vattnet, simstil och rytm: 0-5 poäng
Kapacitet att behålla rytmen i vattnet: 0-5 poäng
Avlämning av apport: 0-5 poäng
Lydnad i vattnet och på land: 0-5 poäng




Moment B
Hämta ett fiskenät från båt
När nätet placerats i position av funktionär sitter hunden i båten med föraren.
Nätet placeras 10 meter från båtens akter.
På förarens kommando hämtar hunden nätet. Hunden ska hoppa från båten, simma utan att tveka eller ändra kurs och hämta nätet.
Avlämnandet av nätet kan ske på två sätt.
Alternativ 1: Hunden avlämnar nätet i förarens hand simmande bredvid båten, föraren lyfter sedan upp hunden i båten.
Alternativ 2: Hunden går upp på båten via en ramp och avlämnar nätet i handen på föraren.
Hund som släpper nätet i vattnet blir diskvalificerad i momentet.


Här bedöms:
Hur hunden hoppar i vattnet från båt och markerar objektets position: 0-5 poäng
Hur hunden hämtar nätet: 0-5 poäng
Avlämnande av nätet: 0-5 poäng
Lydnad i vattnet och på land: 0-5 poäng




Moment C
Djupdykning från båt med sjunkande apport
Hunden sitter i båten när föraren kastar ut apporten ca 2 meter från båten.
Apporten ska ligga på ett djup av minst 1,5 meter under vattenytan.
På förarens kommando ska hunden hoppa från båten, dyka och hämta upp apporten.
Avlämnandet av apporten kan ske ett på två sätt.
Alternativ 1: Hunden avlämnar apporten i förarens hand simmande bredvid båten, föraren lyfter sedan upp hunden i båten.
Alternativ 2: Hunden går upp på båten via en ramp och avlämnar apporten i handen på föraren.
Hund som släpper apport i vattnet blir diskvalificerad i momentet.
Här bedöms:
Hur hunden hoppar i vattnet från båt och dyksätt: 0-5 poäng
Apporteringsresultat: 0-5 poäng
Avlämnande av apporten: 0-5 poäng

Goals and Proposals

 


The Working Trials have as goal increase the natural skills of the competing dogs, regarding the improvement of the functional aspects of the Breed. 

Develop, awake and expand in breeders, owners and general public, to the Working Trials as a cultural activity, sportive and with public utility through informative and educational actions during the Trials.


This Trials have the goal of giving continuity to the work made for this Breed during many years, in the performance on board of the fishing boats, as a great fisherman auxiliary.

 



Organization

 


The Working Trials are organized and supervised for the 4th Commission - Sub commission of Water Dogs from the Portuguese Kennel Club (C.P.C.).


They can be organized by and Official Entity, Breed Clubs or Clubs filiated  in the Portuguese Kennel Club, under the authorization of the 4th Commission - Sub commission of Water Dogs.

 



Article 1st

 

The organization of the trials is entirely in charge of a Organizing Commission composed by members from the Organizing Entities. The Organizing Commission from a trial will submit to the approval of the 4th Commission - Sub commission of Water Dogs, a program on witch the following must be: 

 

 


1 -  Name of the Organizing Entity, declaring that the trials will be made in conformity with the 4th Commission - Sub commission of Water Dogs rules.

2 -  Name of the members from the Organizing Commission.

3 -  Name of a Judge and a Commissioner officially recognized for the C.P.C. (in case the Organizing Commission doesn't present names, they will be designate for the 4th Commission - Sub commission of Water Dogs).

4 -  Nomination of a Veterinary to assure the admission of the dogs.

5 -  Date and place of the Trial realization.

6 -  Inscription conditions and prices.

7 -  Admission schedule and Trial beginning.

8 -  Prizes and certificates (to Trails Level II or III).

9 -  Execution guarantee of the 11th article.


After the Program approval the Organizing Commission of the Trial is responsible for the divulgation of the Trial, through reproductions of the original program, on witch must be the referred elements in the earlier aligns. 

The C.P.C. only recognizes as legal the trials that are organized in harmony with the disposals of this Regulation, and after approval of the 4th Commission - Sub commission of Water Dogs from the C.P.C.

 



Article 2nd

Water Trials Types and Levels

 

The Portuguese Water Dog Water Trials are composed by: 

 

 


1 -  Working Water Trials - Level I.

2 -  National Working Championship Trials - Level II.

3 -  International Working Championship Trials - Level III.



Article 3rd

Levels and Classes

 

Level I

Intended to dogs in beginning of training and only performed in Working Water Trials. 

Level II

Intended to dogs that total completed the three trials of Level I and qualified with Excellent. In this level can compete dogs from foreign countries.


Level III

Intended to dogs that are National Working Champions. In this level can compete dogs from foreign countries, that must also be National Working Champions in their countries.


      - All dogs that come from foreign countries and in which countries don't exist Water Trials, must begin their performance in Level I.

 

 

 

Classes

Young - from 5 to 12 months.

 

Adult - from 12 months forward.


The Young Class only has one level with three trials of appreciation (the same as Level I to Adult Class).

 



Article 4th

Inscription

 

In the inscription bulletin duly signed by the dog owner, must be: 

 

 


1 -  Type of Trial and Level.

2 -  Name of the Dog.

3 -  Number of registration in L.O. ou R.I.

4 -  Date of birth.

5 -  Name of the owner.

6 -  Name of the handler.


1 -  By inscribing their dogs, the owners are totally obliged, with no conditions or reserves, to respect all the disposals of this Regulation.

2 -  The inscriptions declarations are accepted as true, being however from the owner responsibility.

3 -  The incorrect or false declarations involve the application of sanctions.

4 -  The inscription bulletins duly filled are delivered in the time established in the program, as well as the fees to pay.

5 -  In the inscription act the owner receives for each dog a counterpart with the inscription number.

6 -  Once the inscription is accepted, the owner can't demand, under no excuse, the right to the reimbursement of the paid fee, except if the Trial doesn't take place. 

7 -  To the Water Trials - Level I the points 5 and 6 aren't applied.


Article 5th

Admission


1 -

In the Water Trails can only  be admitted dogs from the breed Portuguese Water Dog inscribed in Books of Origins or Initial Registration.

 

2 -  It is obligatory the presentation of the sanitary bulletin or proof of the anti-rabies vaccination, within the validation term, and effectuated in more than eight days before, and also to prove the other vaccinations against the primary infect-contagious diseases of the specie. 

3 -  The dogs that are rejected in the sanitary exam wont be admitted, as well as the dogs belonging to a judge or commissioner, that actuate in the trial, or to a member of the Organizing Commission.


 



Article 6th

Judges, Commissioners and Delegate

 

The judgments are made by Judges recognized by the C.P.C. 

The Judges, only entities qualified to value, qualify and classify the trials of the competitor dogs, judge under their personal responsibility and their decisions aren't possible to appeal, except in case of bad interpretation of the regulations or infraction of the official regulations.


It is forbidden to Judges to consult lists of former trials classifications, before the judgments are finished.


It is forbidden to Judges classify a dog of their own breeding, or of their own property, when by the water trial date haven't passed 6 months since the dog no longer belongs to him. During the trial realization can only be in the enclosure the Judge, Commissioner, Delegate and Handler of the dog in trial.


The Judges must present a report for each dog competitor to Level II and III, which original belongs to the C.P.C. and copy will be delivered to the dog handler.


The Judge can suspend temporarily or definitively a trial in case there are no safety conditions to its realization.


The Organizing Commission, with the previous C.P.C. authorization or its Delegate, can replace the announced Judges or Commissioners that, for a strong reason, are disabled to judge.


Commissioners competence is to maintain discipline and made fulfill the disposals of the Regulation, as well as contribute to improve the Judges mission, however without interfering in their decisions.


When suitable the C.P.C. will nominate a Delegate for the Championship Trials that will:

 


-  Inform or take note of any abusive behavior from the handlers or owners.

-  Take note of any protest or complaint that occurs during the trial.

These details should be mentioned in the written report that will be delivered after the trial end to the C.P.C. Discipline Commission.



Article 7th

Awards and Diplomas

 


In Trials are granted and registered in working notebook (see article 16th):

 


-  All the results achieved in Trials Level II and Level III.

-  Proposal certificates of C.A.C.T. and R.C.A.C.T. to grant according to the rules in Level II.

-  Proposal certificates of C.A.C.I.T. and R.C.A.C.I.T. to grant according to the rules in Level III.


In Working Water Trials Level I can be granted special awards according to the pre-established conditions of the Organizing Commissions and approved by the 4th Commission - Sub commission of Water Dogs



The Big Awards to grant in Working Water Trials, are usually constituted by Trophy's, in number to define by the Organizing Commissions and by the 4th Commission - Sub commission of Water Dogs, as following:

 


-  Best Dog Level I and followings (Young Class)

-  Best Dog Level I and followings (Adult Class)

-  Best Dog Level II and followings

-  Best Dog Level III and followings


The Championship Certificates are only granted after being homologated by the C.P.C. 

No competitor can begin his trial without first paying the inscription.

 


Article 8th

Judgment


1 -

The order by which the judgments are made is the following:

 


Level I


-  Young Class

-  Adult Class


Level II

Level III


-  The trials are made individually, in each class, by the order determinated by sort, except if there is a competitor that participate for the first time, because he will automatically be the 3rd to participate.


The qualifications must be granted according to the following criteria:


-  EXCELLENT  -  Granted to the dog that obtains more than 45 points.

-  VERY GOOD  -  Granted to the dog that obtains between 35 and 44 points.

-  GOOD  -  Granted to the dog that obtains between 25 and 34 points.

-  SUFFICIENT  -  Granted to the dog that obtains between 15 and 24 points.

-  NOT QUALIFIED  -  Granted to the dog that obtains less than 15 points, makes disqualifying faults, do not perform the A trial of Level I, or if the dog presents himself momentarily diminished.



The Levels and Trials are schematized in Attachment A of this Regulation.

 



Article 9th

Realization Places

 


The Trials, preferably, must take place in the sea, environment where the breed use to work, or in other aquatic environments such as lakes, rivers, estuary or barrage, being excluded the utilization of pools or tanks (still waters) to the trials realization.

 


Article 10th

Objects to use in Trials


-

The objects be used in Trials must be in conformity with the drawings and descriptions of Attachment B of this Regulation and, competes to the Judge their approval before the Trial.

 



Article 11th

Water Trials area and equipment

 


The area of the Trial is a rectangle of 20m large for 15m long, that must be fenced with police bars or with poles and ribbon, having as natural prolongation the same area in the water.


The support equipment is composed by two tables, four chairs, two sun hats, one pole with a red flag to mark the start/finish line and a boat to support and rescue during the Trial.

 



Article 12th

Complaints

 


All the complains that eventually can come up during the trial, must be made by written in place, and delivered to the Delegate.

 


Article 13th

Level I - Trial A

 

Swimming (Speed)

1 -

The origin of this trial has the goal of recreate one the functions of Water Dogs, that was to deliver messages from ship to ship, according to their orders. The Judge values in dogs the temperament characteristics to water and swimming, regarding the following:


a - Behavior before water

b - Speed between buoys

c - Swimming style and rhythm

d - Obedience

 

2 -  This evaluation is made along a triangular course defined by the start/finish point and by two buoys placed at the same distance, more or less 15m, and separated between also for 15m.

Procedure

-  The dog begins the trial in the sitting position on the left side of the handler without leash. At his order he must go into water and enter, doing the course with his handler.

-  To end the trial the handler goes to the start/finish point and the dog will sit on his left side.

-  The punctuated speed is the one between buoys, that will be chronometrated.

-  The dog that doesn't enter the water or doesn't turn the first buoy will be disqualified, although he can continue in trial, he will  be classified behind the last dog that concludes the first trial no mater the punctuation obtained in the remaining trials.


-

  The Judge will punctuate the dogs according to the following criteria: 

 

 

   

   Behavior Before Water  from 0 to 5 points

   Complete Course  from 0 to 5 points

   Swimming Style and Rhythm   from 0 to 5 points

   Obedience  from 0 to 5 points


The time between buoys will me punctuated according to the number of dogs in trial, the first will have the higher punctuation, and the slowest one the lower (1 point).


Trial B


Retrieve of a Floating Object

1 -

The origin of this trial is to recreate one of the Water Dog functions on board of the fishing boats that was to retrieve the objects that fall outside the boat, fishes that got out of the hooks and save human lives. The Judge in this trial valuates the way the dog retrieves an object thrown into the water, the skill of swimming with the object in his mouth and the delivery in hand, regarding the following:


a - Attention to the fall point of the object

b - Way dog catches the object

c - Delivery of the object

d - Obedience

Procedure

-  During the object launch to water  the dog is sit without leach on the left side of the handler. The object must be thrown by the handler, to the middle of the buoys and at equal distance. In case the launching isn't correct, because its too short distance, or outside the buoys, the Judge should ask for another launch.

-  To retrieve the object the dog will start at the handler's order, after he thrown the object, and must swim directly to the object, without hesitate or change direction, and catch it on first attempt.

-  The dog must carry the object always on his mouth without dropping it, and swimming directly to his handler. In land, the dog at the handler's order delivers the object in hand and sits on the handler left side. When the dog leaves the water, if he drops the object to shake himself, he will not be penalized, if next he catches and delivers it to the handler.

-  The dogs that don't retrieve the object wont be punctuated in this trial.


-

  The Judge valuates the dogs according to the following criteria: 

 

 

   

   Marking of the fall point of the object  from 0 to 5 points

   Way of catching the object  from 0 to 5 points

   Delivery of the object  from 0 to 5 points

   Obedience  from 0 to 5 points


Trial C


Diving with retrieve of a submerse object

1 -

The origin of this trial is to recreate one of the functions that Water Dogs had on board of the fishing boats, that was to recover objects that fall in the water and sink. The Judge in this trial evaluates the way the dog prepares the basic dive (head submerse) and recovers the submerse object at least 0,5m to 1m, regarding the following points:


a - Preparation and way of diving

b - Retrieve result

c - Way he delivers in hand

d - Obedience

Procedure

-  The dog begins the trial in the sitting position on the left side of the handler. At his order they both go into the water until the dogs starts swimming, the handler frees the object that must go underwater and steps away. The dog to recover the object must at least submerse completely his head.

-  The Judge must have in attention the sub aquatic visibility conditions and the undulation, that may interfere in the object retrieve. In this cases the Judge evaluates the dogs that prepare in correct way and dive to attempt recovering the object.

-  The object delivery after the retrieve is made in land with the handler positioned in the start/finish point. The dog must bring the object always in his mouth, without dropping it, and swimming directly to the handler. In land, the dog, at the handler's order delivers the object in hand and sits on the left side of the handler. When the dog leaves the water, if he drops the object to shake himself, he will not be penalized, if next he catches and delivers it to the handler.


-

  The Judge will evaluate the dogs according to the following criteria: 

 

 

     

   Diving preparation  from 0 to 5 points

   Retrieve result  from 0 to 5 points

Article 14th

Level II - Trial A

 

Swimming (Resistance)

1 -

The origin of this trial has the goal of recreate one the functions of Water Dogs, that was to deliver messages from ship to ship, according to the given orders, sometimes the dogs had to swim considerable distances and had to be much time inside the water. The Judge values in dogs the temperament characteristics before water and swimming, regarding the following:


a - Behavior before water

b - Resistance

c - Swimming style and rhythm

d - Obedience


 

 

2 -  This evaluation is made along a course on which the handler and the dog must go round the placed buoys, several times, until achieving two minutes time.

Procedure

-  The dog begins the trial in the sitting position on the left side of the handler without leash. At his order he must go into water and enter, doing the course with his handler.

-  The dog that doesn't enter the water, or that doesn't stay inside the water at least 2 minutes swimming will be disqualified.

-  To finish the trial the handler goes to the start/finish point and the dog will sit on his left side.


-

  The Judge will valuate dogs according to the following criteria: 

 

 

     

   Behavior before water  from 0 to 5 points

   Resistance  from 0 to 5 points

   Swimming style and rhythm  from 0 to 5 points

   Obedience  from 0 to 5 points


Trial B


Retrieve of a floating line with floats (fishing net simulation)

1 -

The origin of this trial is based in the fact that in boats dogs detected and retrieved the broken or lost fishing nets, or peaces of net that were broken. The Judge valuates dogs, regarding the following:


a - Attention to the fall point of the object

b - Way dog catches the object

c - Delivery of the object

d - Obedience 


 

 







 


Brisa da Areia Branca

 


Procedure

-  During the object launch to water the dog is sit without leach on the left side of the handler. The object must be thrown by the handler, to the middle of the buoys and at equal distance. In case the launching isn't correct, because its too short distance, or outside the buoys, the Judge should ask for another launch.

-  To retrieve the object the dog will start at the handler's order, after he thrown the object, and must swim directly to the object, without hesitate or change direction, and catch it on first attempt.

-  The dog must carry the object always on his mouth, without dropping it, and swimming directly to his handler. In land, the dog, at the handler's order delivers the object in hand and sits on the handler left side. When the dog leaves the water, if he drops the object to shake himself, he will not be penalized, if next he catches and delivers it to the handler.

-  The dogs that don't retrieve the object wont be punctuated in this trial.


-

  The Judge valuates the dogs according to the following criteria: 

 

 

   

   Marking of the fall point of the object  from 0 to 5 points

   Way dog catches the object  from 0 to 5 points

   Delivery of the Object  from 0 to 5 points

   Obedience  from 0 to 5 points


Trial C


Deep Dive with Retrieve of a Submerse Object

1 -

The origin of this trial is to recreate the functions that Water Dogs had on board of the fishing boats, that was to recover objects that fall in the water and sink. The Judge in this trial evaluates the way the dog dives, at a depth considered between 1 to 1,5m and recovers the submerse object, regarding the following points:


a - Preparation and way of diving

b - Retrieve result

c - Way he delivers in hand

d - Obedience

Procedure

- The dog begins the trial in the sitting position on the left side of the handler without leash, and at his order they both go to the water edge, the handler launches the object hat must go underwater at least for 1m, and gives the dog order to retrieve the object. The dog must completely dive his body.

- The Judge must have in attention the sub aquatic visibility conditions and the undulation, that may interfere in the object retrieve. In this cases the Judge evaluates the dogs that prepare in correct way and dive to attempt recovering the object.

- The object delivery after the retrieve is made in land with the handler positioned in the start/finish point. The dog must bring the object always in his mouth, without dropping it, and swimming directly to the handler. In land, the dog, at the handler's order delivers the object in hand and sits on the left side of the handler. When the dog leaves the water, if he drops the object to shake himself, he will not be penalized, if next he catches and delivers it to the handler.

The Judge will evaluate the dogs according to the following criteria: 

 

 

     

   Diving preparation  from 0 to 5 points

   Retrieve result  from 0 to 5 points

   Way dog delivers in hand  from 0 to 5 points

   Obedience  from 0 to 5 points


Article 15th

Level III - Trial A


Swimming, according to orders, between boat-land-boat

1 -

he origin of this trial has the goal of recreate one the functions of Water Dogs, that was to deliver messages from ship to land and back, according to the given orders. The Judge values in dogs the temperament characteristics before water and of swimming, regarding the following:


a - Behavior before water

b - Swimming style, rhythm and speed

c - Transport and delivery of the object

d - Obedience

 

 

 




 


Procedure

-  This evaluation is made along a course between a anchored boat 20m away from land and back.

-  The dog jumps from the boat at the handler's order, swim to land, sits in front of the 2nd handler, catches the object that this handler gives him, swim back to the boat and makes the object delivery to the 1st handler.

-  The 1st handler can only give order or incentivate the dog in the water jump and by voice, and to the 2nd handler is only allowed to give the object to the dog and give a verbal order to the deliver of the object to the 1st handler. Any other kind of incitement can originate the dog declassification.

-  The courses the dog makes are chronometized.


-

  The Judge will punctuate dogs according to the following criteria: 

 

 

     

   Jump into water and swimming rhythm  from 0 to 5 points

   Capacity to keep in course  from 0 to 5 points

   Object delivery  from 0 to 5 points

   Obedience  from 0 to 5 points


Trial B


Retrieve Floating Object from Boat (fishing net)

1 -

The origin of this trial is based in the fact that on board of boats dogs had the responsibility of recover objects that fall in water. The Judge valuates the capacity of dogs to jump into the water, recover the object and come on board, regarding the following points:


a - Water jump and making of the object

b - Way dog catches the object

c - Delivery of the object

d - Obedience

 

 

 




 


Procedure

-  During the object positioning in the water the dog is sit in the boat without leash. The object must be placed by the Commissioner, at a distance of 10m.

-  To retrieve the object the dog starts at the handler's order, must swim directly to the object without hesitate or change direction, and catch it on first attempt.

-  The dog must carry the object always on his mouth, without dropping it, and swimming directly to his handler. The dog delivers the object in the handler's hand and enters the boat by the ramp.

-  The dogs that don't retrieve the object wont be punctuated in this trial.


-

  The Judge valuates the dogs according to the following criteria: 

 

 

     

   Water jump and marking of the object  from 0 to 5 points

   Way dog recover the object  from 0 to 5 points

   Delivery of the Object  from 0 to 5 points

   Obedience  from 0 to 5 points


Trial C


Deep Diving from Boat with Retrieve of a Submerse Object

1 -

The origin of this trial is to recreate the functions that Water Dogs had on board of the fishing boats, that was to recover objects that fall in the water and sink. The Judge in this trial evaluates the way the dog dives, at a depth considered between 1,5 to 2m and recovers the submerse object, regarding the following points:


a - Water jump and way of diving

b - Retrieve result

c - Way he delivers in hand

d - Obedience

 

 

 




 


Procedure

-  Dog starts this trial in the sitting position. Handler throws the object about 2m away and it must sink at a minimum depth of 1,5m, the dog dives and retrieves the object.

-  The Judge must have in attention the sub aquatic visibility conditions and the undulation, that may interfere in the object retrieve. In this cases the Judge evaluates the dogs that prepare in correct way, jump without hesitate and dive to attempt recovering the object.

-  The dog must carry the object always on his mouth, without dropping it, and swim directly to the boat, deliver the object in the handler's hand and enter the boat by the ramp.


-

  The Judge valuates the dogs according to the following criteria: 

 

 

   

   Water jump and way of diving  from 0 to 5 points

   Retrieve result  from  0 to 5 points

   Way dog delivers in hand  from  0 to 5 points

   Obedience  from  0 to 5 points



Article 16th

Working Notebook

 


1 -  The Working Notebooks approved by the C.P.C., have, besides the dog identification and owner, the registry of the trials the dog entered, levels and results, and the Judges signatures.

2 -  This notes are only valid after being approved (signed and stamped) by the 4th Commission - Sub commission of Water Dogs from the C.P.C. 

3 -  It is obliged to note all results with the exception of "Not Classified".



Article 17º

Working National and International Champions

 

       

1 - In each trial can be proposed by he Judge a Working National Champion Certificate (C.A.C.T.), and a reserve (R.C.A.C.T.), for each sex, to all dogs that compete in Level II. 

It can only be attributed one C.A.C.T or R.C.A.C.T to dogs qualified with Excellent.


The Working National Champion title is attributed to the dog that completes three C.A.C.T. granted by two different Judges, and homologated by the 4th Commission - Sub commission of Water Dogs from the C.P.C.

 

2 -  In each trial can be proposed by he Judge a Working International Champion Certificate (C.A.C.I.T.), and a reserve (R.C.A.C.I.T.), for each sex, to all dogs that compete in Level III. 

It can only be attributed one C.A.C.I.T or R.C.A.C.I.T to dogs with qualified with Excellent.


The Working International Champion title is attributed to the dog that completes three C.A.C.I.T. granted by two different Judges, and homologated by the 4th Commission - Sub commission of Water Dogs from the C.P.C.

 



Article 18th

Infractions

 


1 -  It is responsibility of the C.P.C. Disciplinary Council to judge the infractions to this Regulation.

2 -  All owners or handlers that try to escape the execution of the disposals mentioned in the Regulation, give false declarations in the inscription bulletins or forge the Working Notebooks, will be subject of the Disciplinary Council sanctions.

3 -  All owners or handlers that insult Judges, Commissioners, Delegates or members of the Organizing Commission are subject to the disciplinary sanctions applied by the C.P.C. Disciplinary Council.



Article 19th

Transitory Disposals

 


1 -  The objects to be used in trials can be changed or improved by the 4th Commission - Sub commission of Water Dogs from the C.P.C., in case its approved in practice as an improvement to the performance of dogs in trials.

2 -  The punctuations to give in levels and trials can be changed by the 4th Commission - Sub commission of Water Dogs from the C.P.C., in case its for improvement of trials.

3 -  All changes to the present Regulation must be communicated to the Breed Clubs if existent, and to the Judges and Commissioners so that they can apply it in trials they are asked for.


4 -

  This Regulations enters in vigor 30 days after being approved in General Assembly of the C.P.C. and abolish the previous Regulations.
